Kowloon, Shopping, Meals

Day started with a ferry ride to Kowloon followed by lunch at Ye Shanghai

Came back to the Hotel which is attached to the IFC mall, went shopping and bought nothing.
We took a break from the usual great restaurants and opted to have a simple non asian dinner at Le Salon De The de Joel Robuchon located in the IFC mall.

The night view from our room overlooking Hong Kong Harbor....Spectacular!

Day 5 of our Hong Kong adventure

Today is another overcast day, however we're happy since we have had no rain. Breakfast as usual on the 46th floor overlooking Hong Kong Harbour is always great.

After a walk inside the attached IFC mall and finding a beautiful pair of shoes for Doris we were ready to hit the road.

Our first stop out was lunch at yet another one of our favorite restaurants, Mott 32

for the best Char Siu in Hong Kong, the dish consists of juicy reddish-brown slices of roast pork sweetened with a mixture of maltose, five spice powder, and other exotic ingredients.

A walk back to our hotel on the incredible and ingenious elevated pedestrian footbridge took us about 10 minutes. This walkway allows you to reach many parts of Hong Kong by foot, a truly remarkable piece of engineering.

Dinner at Carbone was disappointing tonight and so was the price which was considerably more than last year when dinner was superb. Menu looks nice, don't you think?

Tian Tan Buddha

Once again we visited the Tian Tan Buddha, it was as spectacular as we remembered. Our route to Ngong Ping, Lantau Island by way of the South China Sea was filled with beautiful views of the mountains and land formations that jutted out of the sea that reminded us of past trips along Halong Bay in North East Vietnam.

Statue near the top just below the Tian Tan Buddha

After our visit to see the Buddha, we came back to our hotel where we had a delicious lunch poolside...A bowl of Wanton soup.

The end of a perfect day, dinner at one of my favorite restaurants Hutong in Kowloon; Shrimps, Dan Dan Noodles, Cod Fish, Stir Fried Vegetables...Deeelicious!

After dinner we walked back to the ferry and rode across Victoria Harbour back to our hotel.

Monday October 28, 2019 Kowloon

The day began with a sunshine filled morning. We walked to the Ferry Pier and boarded the Ferry for a 15 minute boat ride to Kowloon.

Our first stop was at the Optometrist where I had several pairs of eyeglasses made.

It was time for lunch, our taxi ride to the restaurant was as if the taxi was hired to give us a tour of Kowloon, in other words a very circuitous ride.  This is a sample of a little protest graffiti along the way.

We went to one of my favorite restaurants Ye Shanghai, YUM! Still feeling the wrath of Jet-lag we returned to our hotel and collapsed once again.

We cancelled our dinner reservation at Carbone as we were too tired to go. We managed to get dressed to go to dinner in the Hotel Lounge and enjoyed a bowl of the best Wonton Soup anywhere.

Sunday October 27, 2019 Jetlag Recovery

Our first step to recovery is to spend a couple of hours in the sun, which we did by sitting out at the pool enjoying the beautiful view of Victoria Harbor with Kowloon on the other side.

After resetting our biological clocks we took a walk in the IFC mall attached to our hotel stopping for lunch at one of Alfreds favorite restaurants, Crystal Jade; For desert we stopped at Joel Robuchon for a refreshing Sunrise Cooler.

We returned to our room and collapsed once again waking up hours later to have a late dinner in the Hotel Lounge.

Hong Kong here we come! The day has finally arrived!

We set off on the first leg of our journey to Hong Kong, flying from MIA to JFK for an overnight stay. We arrived in time to meet my college friend Ellen who joined us for dinner. The following morning we traveled to JFK to board our flight on Cathay Pacific.
Check in and security was a breeze, we proceeded to the American Airlines lounge where we waited to board our Cathay Pacific flight.
After a 15 hour flight, we arrived an hour early at HK airport, and passed thru customs and immigration. A car was waiting for us, the ride to the hotel took 30 minutes.
Stay tuned for further postings after we recover from our long journey.

Our Last Dance

Here we go again.......

We will be leaving Miami on Thursday October 24th for New York, and flying out to Hong Kong on Friday the 25th.

This will be our last trip to Hong Kong and we plan to explore and enjoy every minute we are there.

We plan on revisiting the Tian Tan Buddha, spending some time in Repulse Bay, exploring new areas of Hong Kong Park including the Zoo and Aviary, listening to the birds singing in the Bird Park, a possible sunset cruise around Victoria Harbour, and hopefully avoiding the protests.

Come along and join us one last time!
