Foggy Friday March 16, 2012

Today started out so foggy you could not see out of the windows. As the day went forward the fog lifted and we had sun during the afternoon. A haze hung over the city all day.

We started our day with a quick breakfast, and then a ride by car to Kowloon to start some sightseeing. Our first stop was the Wan Tai Sin Temple where the incense was burning and filling the air with its unique aroma, and people were kneeling praying and lighting their incense. This is the temple where you hear the rattling of bamboo sticks used for fortune telling. There are over one hundred fortune tellers there. It is said that this is the most colorful place of worship in Hong Kong. The largest temple in Hong Kong is the Mam Mo Temple, which has spiral  incense hanging from the ceiling, we hope to get there later in the week

The next stop was the flower market. Hundreds of beautiful orchids of all colors are for sale at all
the stalls along with many other types of flowers and bonsai plants of all sizes. Across the street from the flower market is the bird park where older men bring their caged "Song Birds" and the birds sing all morning. You can hear them as you walk along the street.

We returned to the hotel for a salad lunch

Our plan after lunch was to take the Star Ferry across Victoria Harbour and return to Kowloon for another hour or two. The trip by ferry took about five minutes and the car ride there this morning took about twenty minutes.
We spent the rest of the day enjoying the sights and sounds of this busy city.
